Prof. (Dr.) Chandrabhas Narayana
Prof. (Dr.) Chandrabhas Narayana is the Director of the RGCB, Thiruvananthapuram. He earned his Ph.D. in Physics in 1995 from the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore, following his M.Sc. in Physics from Mysore University. He conducted his Post-Doctorate research at Cornell University in Ithaca, NY, USA. Prof. Narayana has received numerous accolades, including the Honorary Fellowship of the Indian Society of Analytical Scientists (ISAS) in 2022 and the Sheikh Saqr RAK-CAM Senior Fellowship in 2009. He is a Fellow of the Indian Academy of Sciences, the Royal Society of Chemistry, and the National Academy of Sciences. His impressive list of awards includes the ‘ISAS Raja Ramanna Award’ in 2023, the ‘Platinum Jubilee Lecture Award’ in 2020 by the Indian Science Congress, the ‘Mizushima Raman Lecture Award’ in 2018, and the ‘MRSI-ICSC Superconductivity & Materials Science Senior Award’ in 2016, Prof. C.N.R. Rao Oration Award’ in 2008 and the ‘Sir C.V. Raman Young Scientist Award’ in 2007 from the Karnataka Government. Before joining RGCB, Prof. Narayana held the position of Professor in the Chemistry and Physics of Materials Unit at the Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research (JNCASR). He has previously served as the ‘Dean, Research and Development’ and ‘Dean Fellowships and Extensions Programmes’ at JNCASR, as well as the Chairman of the Chemistry and Physics of Materials Unit there. Prof. Narayana’s research expertise lies in Raman Spectroscopy, particularly in the areas of drug-protein interaction for drug screening and diagnostic applications. He holds multiple patents and has authored over 200 internationally renowned publications, with more than 6000 citations.
