Prof. (Dr.) Mohanan Kunnummal

Prof. (Dr.) Mohanan Kunnummal, hailing from Chembukavu in Thrissur, currently serves as the Vice Chancellor of the Kerala University of Health Sciences and University of Kerala. He earned his MD degree from the Govt. Medical College, Trivandrum. Dr. Kunnummal’s list of achievements features accolades like the ‘Best Doctor in the State Award’ in 2016 from the Government of Kerala, the ‘IMA Community Service Award for Individuals’ in 2012 from the Indian Medical Association, and the ‘Dr. P.J. Alexander Memorial Oration Award’ from the Kerala Indian Medical Association. He is also a ‘Fellow of the Indian Academy of Medical Specialties.’ At the national level, he serves as the President of the ‘Association of Indian Health Science Universities’ and has been an Executive Councillor of the Asian Oceanic Society of Radiology, and was the former National President of the ‘Indian Radiological & Imaging Association, member of the ‘Radiological Society of North America’ and the ‘European Society of Radiology. During the COVID-19 pandemic, his expertise was highly valued as a ‘Special Invitee’ in the Covid-19 Advisory Committee of the Government of Kerala. Dr. Kunnummal’s academic journey spans 25 years as a Radio-diagnosis Faculty at the Government Medical College, Thrissur, including a decade as Professor and HOD. His efforts led to the transformation of the department into a top-tier teaching institution with state-of-the-art diagnostic equipments. He has held key administrative positions such as Senate Member and Dean of the Faculty of Medicine. He served as the Principal of Govt. Medical College, Manjeri, and as the Principal in charge of Govt. Medical College, Thrissur.  Dr. Kunnummal has also guided 19 research projects focused on healthcare significance, and has several national and international publications.
